It must be interesting to observe American politics from outside. What is the general attitude in Japan?
A recent news item here in the states... opinion polls from around the world show in general, people favor Kerry four to five times over Bush.
I dont know why the rest of the world can see this administration for what it is, and yet so many Americans are fooled.

I think the problem is that the American media is too tame and reflects the wishes of its owners. Journalists may well be "liberal", but they don't control what gets printed or broadcast - editors and publishers and station owners do.
There is no equivalent to Rush Limbaugh-style programming in Europe or Japan. In fact, Limbaugh would find himself running foul of hate laws in Europe, and he would find it difficult to attract sponsors. I think that there is part of America that wants to hear this sort of thing, though, and it's larger there than in other countries (though it surely does exist in other places).

Yeah, yeah... there is a remarkable lack of critical thinking ability in the United States. I think there are a lot of people who listen to show like Rush Limbaugh and believe that they are staying abreast of current events by doing so. That they do not discriminate between opinion and fact that way.
One of the things it seems the Bush Administration understands is that if you tell a lie, no matter how outrageous, or how well it is later discredited the first impression of that message sticks with a majority of Americans. So you can tell them what you want as long as you maintain the power of the first impression. The are exceedingly sucessful at framing the message for the public.
*sigh*
